Homemade Chocolate Syrup ~ Delicious and crazy easy.

ATTENTION Chocolate lovers!! Do you love making a glass of chocolate milk? How about a drizzle of that lovely syrup on top of your Ice Cream? A cup of hot chocolate on those cold mornings? Oh yes these are always good. Unfortunately if you are on a budget buying the Chocolate syrup can be expensive if you go through a lot of it, so it gets reserved for special occassions. Now for the good news! YOU can make it at home, for Pennies on the dollar AND it is every bit as good as your store bought name brand ~ Without all the preservatives :) YES Chocolate on DEMAND! I am in LOVE ;0)

Pancake Syrup ~ Homemade goodness in 5 minutes!

What is your favorite weekend breakfast? I love pancakes! That "love" required me to spend years stocking up on pancake syrup and yet it seemed that I would still run out when I least expected it. Living in the country, jumping in the car and running over to the store to pick up a few things quickly is not an option. One day I finally decided enough is enough! I keep all the items I need to make the syrup on hand in bulk, WHY was I spending so much on the store bought version??  Why indeed! All you need is a few minutes and 5 ingredients, one is water and the another is optional!

Christmas Tree Sun Catcher Ornaments ~ Easy & Fun!

Yesterday was one of those days where a easy craft to keep the children occupied was in need. We have been wanting to make sun catchers for some time now and yesterday was the perfect opportunity. It turned out to be a really fun project that both of my grandchildren enjoyed! The oldest one laid out letters and designs in hers, where the youngest one did a lot more freestyle on patterns. We ended up with 24 Ornaments ~ some they made to give as gifts, others for them to hang on their tree.

Homemade Hand Sanitizer

How do YOU fight off the FLU season? If you are like me you keep a steady supply of hand sanitizer in your car, purse, office and in the children's back packs. This helps BUT it also becomes expensive, drys out your hands and think of how much plastic you are throwing away! I know that I have run out before and felt like I was totally unprotected, Especially after leaving the gas station or grocery store! Have you ever thought about how MANY germs on on those gas pump handles or shopping carts? GROSS! I started making my own hand sanitizer about a year ago and WOW I was shocked when I realized how easy and inexpensive it is to make!

How to make Amish Friendship Bread Starter Mix

I recently shared some tips and tricks for feeding and using your Amish Friendship Bread Starter mix. I love using this starter mix for all sorts of things and most of my co-workers and neighbors love it as well!  If you have never received the starter or you are between batches and want to try your hand at making it yourself, it is extremely easy!  If you do any kind of baking in your home, I KNOW you already have all the ingredients to start this!

Amish Friendship Bread Starter Mix - How to Feed & Use

Amish Friendship Bread Starter mix is one of those gifts that keep on giving. Many "Church Ladies" will share this recipe with their friends throughout the year. Once you get a starter (1 cup) of this stuff you can keep it indefinitely. I love having this starter mix during the fall and winter as it can be used in so many recipes.Quite honestly once the weather starts turning warm though I would just make one final batch of baked goods and then wait until I got another starter. That was then, this is NOW. The one thing I have recently figured out is I did not have to keep on feeding it once I got tired of baking it or once the weather gets to warm to keep my oven rolling. I have compiled below for you the feeding schedule along with some tips and tricks that will help you to keep yours good for a long, LONG time!

Homemade Chapstick All Natural & .05 per tube!

I am so excited this morning! I finally got to try a new recipe that I have been wanting to do for the LONGEST time. Homemade Chapstick! The Best part??? It was about .70 for the batch of 13! That is .05 per tube!! Talk about procrastinating, I keep the items on hand so I am not sure why I never tried this before now, it is SO SIMPLE! It only requires 3
all natural items, 5 if you want to add flavoring and a little sweetness. The recipe gave me 13 tubes, took only 5 minutes AND everyone is now set with a spare tube, plus a few to give to friends!

Homemade Pizzas ~ Ready to Eat or freeze!

Pizzas have got to be one of the easiest meals on the planet. Typically when you think of getting a pizza it involves either a frozen thing from the grocery store or a phone call and a delivery or pick up, high in calories and not all that good for you..... I want to change your way of thinking on this little gem of a quick dinner. It does NOT have to be bad for you or a diet. It does not have to be classified as junk food! When you make it at home you are in control of the ingredients, you can make it as healthy or bad as you want. Whatever you decide to top it off with, one thing for sure is you will NOT have all those preservatives in it as you would a store bought frozen pizza and the taste is not comparable.

Hawaiian "Sweet" Yeast Rolls

I have to admit, the one thing I love about going out to eat is those delicious HOT & Sweet yeast rolls. They are right up there with a perfectly cooked steak! Do you know what I hate about going out to eat? Those yeast rolls! Why?? Because I cannot say no and I am certain the waitress knows this ~ I am certain she and my husband are in on this together! The plan I am sure is give me those delectable rolls, a small salad and keep my ice tea glass full and way before my steak gets to the table, I am full! The strangest thing always happens too, when I take my food home thinking I will have it the next day for lunch, it always disappears! Yes indeed I think it is all part of the master plan LOL.

Gardening, its not just for "Country Folk"

How is your garden growing? Whether you are a seasoned gardener or new to getting your hands dirty, the most important thing to remember is that you will have good crops and you will have bad crops. You do it to enjoy it! Not everyone is good at growing all things ~ you will quickly find out what fruits and Veggies grow well for you in your area and which ones do not. Over all, with a little care you can become one step closer to sustainability. My rule of thumb is do not be afraid to plant too much, your friends, co-workers & neighbors will love you if you have a bumper crop year!

Homemade Rice Crispy Treats

Rice Krispie Treats
Homemade Rice Crispy Treats
Rice Crispy Treats are one of my childhood favorite recipes - right up there with the popcorn balls and rock candy!  These are SO EASY to make and they turn out moist and gooeey. Is that even a word? There are many ways to mix up this classic recipe. Use regular or chocolate "Rice Crispies" for you chocohalics, add a heaping spoon of Peanut Butter and then top with Reeces Pieces or top with rainbow sprinkles.

DIY Windshield Washer Fluid

Until recently I had never considered making my Windshield Washer fluid, probably because I don't use that much of it. With the cooler weather approaching though, this is the time of year that I restock on my "car fluids". Since I am always looking for healthier / greener and frugal alternatives to add to my every day life, I thought why not - it is the only thing on my list that I could make! So off I went searching and what did I find? Did you know that commercial windshield washer fluid contains a nasty chemical called methanol? Some brands even add in small amounts of other toxic alcohols such as ethylene glycol into the mixture. The National Institute of Health lists this as a poisonous alcohol that can cause significant damage even in small amounts. I never knew this! I certainly do not want to have this in my home anymore around my Grandchildren or animals! Below you will find a all natural "green" alternative that rocks it off the charts at only .50 (fifty cents) per gallon!

Homemade Laundry Powder

This week it seems my focus is on laundry, well not really - more like sharing with you the things I have used to wash my laundry with.... if I was "truly" focused on my laundry I would be next to my washer "using" it instead of sitting here writing about it LOL. Awhile back I shared with you my liquid version of my laundry soap (at .92 cents per gallon) that I LOVE, however I know that everyone is different and some people prefer liquid, some powders. I lean more toward the liquid but when I travel the powder is definitely more convenient to pack up and take along. The great thing about this recipe is that it utilizes almost the same ingredients as my liquid and is almost as cost effective per wash load! Once you try it, I doubt you will EVER buy that expensive stuff from the store again!!

Homemade Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies are a great take to school snack for those classroom parties. They are quick to put together, they can be iced with different flavorings / colors and they do not have the Chocolate or Nuts that some children may be sensitive to. You just have to remember to make extra's because they are sure to get ate up BEFORE the next morning!

Homemade Sour Cream!!

Homemade Sour Cream is probably one of those items that I never considered doing because it was just so easy to pick up a small container when I needed it. But in my quest to be more frugal and sustainable on what I have available, I have discovered that I was thinking about this all wrong. I CAN culture my sour cream & always have it available. I avoid extra trips past the store AND avoid the temptation to get the other 15 items when I only really needed just one or two.  My savings here are Three fold! I save time and money for NOT stopping past the store, I have available what I need and I can Freeze any excess to keep for later! Oh and the best part? It cost me .84 for a quart of fresh sour cream. Is a quart too much for you? I reduced the recipe for you to 10 Ounces and your finished cost will be .26       Bring on the burritos and salsa I am READY!

Homemade Instant Cold Packs

Have you ever had an injury on the sporting field, while traveling, camping or at work and needed a cold pack? It can be troublesome keeping ice cold while you play out on a sporting field somewhere, and the odds of you carrying a ice pack in your briefcase or purse "just in case" is not all that sensible.
Chemical cold packs that you can buy in drug stores and hunting / fishing supply stores create their own ‘cold’ when you need them. There are a few different types, but they all involve endothermic reactions or processes of some sort. The bags usually contain two different chemicals in different compartments. Breaking a seal allows them to mix, which absorbs heat from the surroundings. These are great for traveling and keeping on hand for "just in case". Putting them on your injury as soon as possible means the reaction will steal its warmth as well, which can reduce swelling and give your body time to deal with the trauma. The problem with these "cold packs" are twofold! First they are fun to play with, especially for kids (age does not matter - lol) and second they can become quite costly at about 1.00 each to keep replacing. The good news is you can make them at home, it is easier than you think AND for a fraction of the cost :)

Homemade Cornbread from Scratch!

With the crispness of fall fast approaching I have been CRAVING one of my favorite meals. A big pot of Homemade Chili with Fresh Cornbread! That is when it hit me, I have not shared this simple to make homemade recipe for Cornbread. Trust me, once you make this homemade you will NEVER open up that little box or bag of stuff again. It literally only takes a few minutes to put together and then bake for 20 minutes at 425*  Don't forget to make extra, it stores well for about a week in a ziplock bag in the fridge AND you can even store it in the freezer for your next meal.

Pain relieving oil ~ All natural, fast acting!

Do you suffer from painful arthritis or muscle spasms? Whether your pain comes from simply overworking yourself or you experience arthritic pain there are natural options to help you overcome that nagging, constant pain. I started my journey of researching natural pain relief, using essential oils about a year ago. I literally stumbled upon a secret little ingredient when using that "miracle" essential oil in another one of my homemade recipes. It literally blew me away how effective it was for the pain and muscle spasms. Who would have thought?!? Honestly the more I learn and use my "oils" the more I wonder how I lived so long without them! Other than this Pain relieving blend being all natural, it is also quite potent and a LITTLE goes a long way. There is no need to slather it on as if it were Icy Hot!

Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits ~ Bake now or freeze for later!

A delicious easy to follow recipe for making homemade buttermilk biscuits from scratch! It is not as hard or time consuming as it sounds, and it takes only a few minutes more than pouring from that box, or opening that refrigerated container. The best part? You will feel a sense of accomplishment and you will save a BUNCH of money!  If you have little ones in the house, let them help you, trust me it will be a memory that they will cherish forever!

Homemade Dishwasher Powder

I have been using my "gel" dishwasher liquid for well over a year and love it. I started experimenting again with the dry version several months ago to accommodate my desire to not heat up my house during the summer and to also share with my family and friends that want a "quicker" recipe. The one problem that I had with the homemade versions was the film that was always left on "plastics". That can be cured with using a good Homemade rinse aid (Recipe here). This recipe is quick to assemble and cleans the dishes very well. The best part is it is very reasonable on cost at 2.36 for 28 oz - about a 50% savings on store bought.

Homemade Vanilla Glaze ~ Quick and Easy!

Making your own Vanilla Glaze for your desserts is very easy and literally only takes a few minutes from start to finish. You will end up with just enough to glaze 2 Coffee Cakes in loaf pans. I have been making this for years and it has never failed me yet. It has a sweet vanilla buttery taste that is good on many variations of pound cakes / coffee cakes. You can even double the recipe to have enough to frost a cake :)

Yogurt Pound Cake ~ Cinnamon and Brown Sugar YUM

I love the feel of "fall" the last couple of mornings! It has got that little "baking" bug of mine getting into full swing. I absolutely LOVE  baking! Whether it is my breads, rolls, biscuits, english muffins, cakes, cookies, casseroles or pizza's - I am addicted to making things from scratch! That is the one thing that I do not like about summer here in the south, I have to refrain from using my oven as much as I can ~ it just gets to hot here to make my AC work that hard. BUT now that it is cooling off in the evenings IT IS TIME to crank that oven back up! Here is a great recipe for a quick and moist pound cake that is sure to please the whole family!

Homemade Foot powder ~ RELIEF for STINKY shoes!

Anyone who has ever had an active child or teenager in their home knows the gut wrenching smell that can  protrude from their little shoes! I used to often wonder how something so sweet and cuddly could produce such a horrid smell from their feet! lol I know, this is one of those articles that most people do not write about, much less talk about. Let's admit it, kids can be painfully honest (and hurtful) to one another and bodily odors are something they find funny. The smells that we associate with stinky feet is actually bacteria and fungus growing. I have a quick and insanely cheap fix for this problem that I use and it works wonderfully!! The 2nd best part? It cost me about .25 per 8 oz for the powder and less than that for the cleaning spray!

It is relatively quick to assemble, You can freeze the extra for another quick meal during the week when time is limited. Look at the bottom of the recipe for another Bonus meal tip! Hope you all have a blessed Sunday!

Homemade Bath & Body Deodorizing Powder

Making your own Bath and Body powder is not only easy and costs you way less money - when you realize what is actually in your store bought versions it has now become necessary!

You only need 3 ingredients…less than 5 minutes…and you have your own customized powder for personal use or gift-giving! You can use any essential oil of your choice or leave it unscented. This recipe will give you 16 oz. of finished product for about $ 1.50! Now compare that cost & ingredients in your store bought, which usually has talcum powder in it. READ HERE why you should not EVER use this on you or your babies!! It makes you wonder WHY anyone would ever put this stuff in a product and then call it "Body Powder"!! Talc however is not the only "nasty" chemical that is put into body care products (powders, lotions and shampoo's), there are also ones called phthalates and these are not usually listed on the labels! READ HERE about the many issues including reproductive harm.... May explain why children are reaching puberty at younger ages these days, not to mention the increase in allergies and asthma!

Homemade Hair spray ~ Yes EVEN hairspray is easy & frugal!

I have just got to share this recipe with you again. Hairspray is one of those things when you buy it you can spend so much money on it and yet to make it at home is so quick, easy and with ingredients that I know YOU have on hand. Seriously it only took me a few minutes tops and I KNOW that the cost is Under .25 for about 5 ounces!! Crazy! I have been using this for about a year now and my only wish was that I had found out sooner!

Homemade Skin is Soft ~ After shower body spritzer

Do you suffer from dry skin? I know I do, I often joke that I have "Alligator Skin" It is not really THAT bad, but my skin definitely soaks up as much moisture as I am willing to put on it. I have a recipe to share with you that I have been using for years. I converted my recipe from my tried and true "old" main ingredient for a healthier all natural oil. I have found that with my new and improved body spray that I do not need to use near as much and my skin stays soft and moisturized all day, even in the dead of winter! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! It is super easy to make, only takes a few minutes and you most likely already have the items on hand!

Homemade Mint Chocolate Brownies ~ A healthy alternative & frugal

Baking your favorite desserts from scratch to satisfy that sweet tooth does not need to be complicated or time consuming. I prefer homemade over store bought any day. I am in control of the ingredients, I do not add preservatives and I can give my family treats without breaking the bank. The biggest plus is I get to share my passion of baking and homemaking with my granddaughters (teach them when they are young and when they get old they will not depart from the ways, teach them to be a good keeper of the home). Here is a simple recipe for delicious homemade brownies with a mint chocolate frosting. They will be your families new favorite. It takes only about 10 minutes to assemble and mix up then bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Cool slightly then top off with your homemade frosting.

Homemade Face Cleansing & Toning pads for Oily skin ~ All Natural & Frugal

Face cleaning pads are easy to make and very easy on the wallet, especially when you compare the cost to store bought. The chemicals / preservatives in the store bought variety may help to clear your skin, but is it really that good for your health? This recipe will help to shrink your pores, remove oil and dirt and leave your skin glowing. The best part is it only takes about 5 minutes to assemble once your water has cooled. The most time consuming part is the boiling / cooling of your tap water. You will have solution left over which can be stored in your fridge and ready to make your next batch .

Bentonite Clay ~ The many Healing uses

What is Bentonite clay and what does it do?

Bentonite is known for its ability to absorb and remove toxins, heavy meats, impurities and chemicals. Bentonite Clay is composed of aged volcanic ash, it is a unique clay due to its ability to produce an “electrical charge” when hydrated. Upon contact with fluid, its electrical components change, giving it the ability to absorb toxins.  Healing clays like Bentonite have a high concentration of minerals including silica, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron and potassium. Sounds pretty amazing huh! But wait there is more ~ In a study from Arizona State University, bentonite clay was found to be highly effective at killing MRSA as well as Salmonella, E.Coli and others. What is promising as research continues in this area is that depending on the method in which the clay kills the infection, it may not be possible for the MRSA or other bacteria to develop a resistance to it as it does with antibiotics.

Tea Tree Essential Oil ~ A must have for every home

Tea Tree oil also known as: Australian tea tree oil and melaleuca oil. What ever you call it, it is one essential oil that every home needs! It can be used in just about every cleaning recipe, Personal Hygiene item, as a wound cleanser and an air purifier. Did you know that it has been clinically / medically proven to kill resistant strains of bacteria and staph (aka MRSA) with only a 3% concentration?!!

Lets examine the proof, and share with your friends and family.

Homemade Baby, Face & Hand Wipes

Have you thought about how much money you spend on Baby / hand wipes? When you consider the cost over a year, it can be quite substantial! Making your own wipes are easy and you are in control of the ingredients that come into contact with you and your children's skin. Lets face it, your skin is your bodies biggest organ - you want to make sure you are using products that are pure and good for you. Have you ever checked the ingredients on your favorite "wipes"?

Homemade Disinfecting Wipes~ Reuseable, Green & Natural!

Confession of a DIY homemaker. I have to admit I have always had a love / hate relationship with the "cleaning" aisle in the store. They have so many items, pretty packages and the claims of what they can do to help rid our homes of germs and dirt almost effortlessly!! Then I would look at the cost and wonder, how much is this REALLY going to cost me. What is in that stuff that makes it so valuable? What is in that stuff that is affecting my health? I would splurge on those items occasionally, but always hated that I had spent so much money on them! "I KNOW" It is so easy to think "oh it was only 5.00 dollars"!! It is so Convenient - but what if we have that attitude for 3 items per week - then suddenly that is 15.00 & that turns into 780.00 in a year! The good news is - I do not think there is ANYTHING on the cleaning aisle that you cannot make, cheaper, better and healthier!! Making your own Homemade Disinfecting Wipes is no exception! Making your own reusable wipes is super easy, only pennies on the dollar AND you can keep on saving money for MANY years to come! My DIY Wipes cost me .27 per batch!! - see breakdown below!

Window & Mirror Cleaner - Homemade, Non Streak & ammonia free for .39 cents !

This evening was one of those really nice summer evenings. The breeze was blowing and it was finally cooling off (by SC standards anyway). Except for the last week of highs near 100 this summer has actually been pretty nice. As I walked over to open one of my windows to let some fresh air in it became obvious WHAT recipe I was going to share next LOL - Gross! Where does all that film, fingerprints and nose prints come from on our windows? My german shepherd was clueless as well :) but I could tell she was annoyed that she did not have a clear view LOL.  One of my petpeeves when I clean my windows and mirrors is, why does it always require a couple of wipe downs to get rid of the streaks, even when the label clearly says streak free? Well actually you can make a homemade Window and Mirror Cleaner with items you probably already have in your pantry that cleans off even the grimiest grime and leaves the windows streak free with very little effort on your part ((( LOVE))). To get away from the store bought "stuff" I have used Vinegar and newspapers for years BUT we use a wood burner during the winter and the smoke film would always take a couple of wipe downs to totally get off the streaks. That is what I LOVE about this recipe! It is quick, easy and frugal -! It hit all 3 of my requirements :) You will love it because you probably already have all the ingredients!

The Robbers oil - Ya know, what do you call someone who steals "___ oil" :)

Have you ever been looking for one of those recipes everywhere instead of just breaking down and buying the Essential oil blend because you KNOW you have all the ingredients in your stash, you just do not know at what proportion to mix it up? That is the dilemma I have been facing in search of "the secret blend". There is just something about my personality that just will not allow me to give up so easily in search of this "wonder" essential oil blend! I HAVE got to have it! Then suddenly the other night a wonderful thing happened, I stumbled upon this awesome blog and there it was ~ I almost heard angels singing "Halleluluuhaaaa" In ear piercing soprano  :)  Ok that is a little dramatic, but I did hit the jackpot and let's face it ladies, if it is a jackpot in our mind... THAT is all that matters.... (and my husband said amen lol). The best part about this blog is that Jill at the prairie homestead has such a fabulous sense of humor and her writing skills are great!

Flea spray Make your own ~ Naturally

Are you tired of spending your weekends treating your home and pets for flea's that just do not get the idea that they are NOT welcome in your home? ME too! What I really hate is all the chemicals that we subject ourselves and our pets to, just in the name of getting rid of bugs! That is why I dedicated this past weekend to researching and testing my essential oils to combat those nasty little things!

How to Start a tomato plant from ..... A tomato plant!

I just love to garden and I love to re-purpose items in my home ~ When you combine those to passions, there is NO TELLING what you can come up with! I just seem to look at things differently.... One person See's a coffee can to throw away I see SO many other Things!! Notice the picture on the left. To the "untrained eye", it appears to be an empty coffee creamer,  I see a "perfect" starter pot for my plants LOL, yes I do!! I even recycle the ones from our office AND the coffee containers.... so many uses, so little containers!
So what does this have to do with starting tomato plants from your existing plants (propagating)....... keep reading :)

Update: I thought you would enjoy seeing what these tomato plants now look like 2 months after propogating them: here is the picture of what they have Grown into :

"MAGIC" Rinse aid for Dishwasher ~ How to make your own!

I am so excited to share this with you! I am sure I am not the only one who has struggled with using homemade Dishwasher detergent! Trying to get the perfect balance between clean and spot free! Glass ware seems to be more forgiving than plastics in that dept. A lot of your homemade "recipes" take a lot of tweeking to get that mixture just right and to keep the spots off. Though there are a lot of recipes that are good ~ most just require one to many steps for me, adding vinegar in the rinse water and putting it in the auto dispenser, lemon kool aid.... putting powder in then a few drops of dawn..... It kinda defeats the whole reason why I bought a dishwasher! I want to load it and walk away, I simply do not have enough time in a day for one more "needy" appliance in my life lol ;0)  Notice in the pic even the plastic lid for the container is shining!
That is why I call this little mixture my "MAGIC" rinse aid!

Homemade Laundry powder for Babies & Sensitive Skin

We have a lot of homemade recipes for the family, the one thing that hit me though is, It is hard to find a good "Homemade" laundry detergent for Babies and Sensitive skin. Well that just will not do! Here is a twist on my homemade laundry powder that is specifically for Babies and people with sensitive skin. The cost savings are off the chart with this one as well, especially when compared to the 2 brands that are in the supermarkets designed for Babies. I know a lot of you make your own homemade bar soap so you can add extra savings to the recipe by substituting your soap for the Dove or Ivory.

The best part of this recipe other than it has a crisp clean smell is that it only costs about .02 per load!!

Homemade Laundry Soap - {No grate} Fast & Fabulous!

Is is possible to make laundry soap for .92 cents per gallon and have it wash 64 loads of clothes? YES YOU CAN!! .I want to share with you probably one of my all time favorite Laundry soap recipes, and believe me I have tried quite  a few. Most were good and worked as good as the store bought stuff that costs so much money. I have used the grated soap recipes & love the results, but in the heat of the summer I am NOT heating up my house to make laundry detergent! I needed something that was amazing as I was determined to NOT go back to buying from the store. It needed to be quick to mix up in large quantities and it needed to be cost effective. I have been using this over a year now, and I am just as pleased as the day I started and then rewrote the recipe ;0)

Make your own Air freshener ~ Naturally

Did you know that Americans will spend upwards of 1.7 BILLION dollars to buy air fresheners this year? That is a staggering number to me, but I do have to admit I am one of those people who just loves walking through gardens. The smells surround you and capture your senses. The smell of oak wood burning in a fireplace, leaves burning or fresh cut grass. The smell of evergreens in the fall or cinnamon and spice remind us the holidays are close by.  That being said, I can certainly understand our addiction to make our homes / cars and offices smell better ;0)  The good news is YOU and I do NOT have to spend that much money, instead we can save our money for more important things..... Deodorant - All natural, fast & frugal ~ NO harmful chemicals!

Homemade Deodorant All natural!
Have you ever thought about what is in your deodorant? Read the label, it has some interesting things there. Items that should not be put ON your body or IN your body. Think about it like this, your skin is the largest organ that your body has. Everything that you put on it is absorbed into your blood stream, then filtered throughout your internal organs, Brain included! Do you really want to be eating aluminum? Did you realize that studies suggest it is tied to Alzheimers Disease? There are numerous studies that suggest it is NOT good for us to use, it is actually a poison to our system - such as,

My frugal Kitchen Challenge Post #1: Fluffy Pancake Mix - Homemade Old Fashioned

I would like to encourage you to take a challenge! First, take a look at your pantry. How many items do you see that are "pre-packaged"? Boxes of mixes?? Have you ever thought about how much money you spend on those items? Have you ever considered how cheap it is to make it at home yourself? At first it may sound impossible, but once you try it you will be amazed at not only how easy it is, but how little time it will take you if you prepare some basic items ahead of time. I know what you are thinking... I just do not have the time, I undertand! In our hurry up world convenience will win out on most days! This is just what the manufacturers have brain washed us into thinking! It is a win win situation for them..... you and I, not so much!

100% Real Vanilla Extract

Homemade 100% Pure Vanilla extract

NOTHING is better than a good recipe with a LOT of vanilla in it ;) I am ashamed to say this but in my youth, many times over the years i just bought the most economical size and brand of "imitation vanilla". I love baking and when money was tight... I would cut corners. The last couple of years I have bought Real Vanilla Extract from a big warehouse store. It was great quality, but still I do not know all what is in their as preservatives. Even though most things I buy from there are a much better deal than the store, and a bigger bottle - still the one thing remains true through out all of your homemaking activities, HOMEMADE items are BETTER. They are more economical to assemble, you know what is in their and the taste and quality are second to none.

100% Wood Cleaner ~ Green, Frugal & FAST to make!

I just love walking into my house and basking in the glory of all the shiny wood! Unfortunately, that does not happen too often (I am almost embarrassed to admit that!!) Lucky for me I have a little helper on the weekends that LOVES to dust! The problem is that I never want the children to breath in all the fumes and over spray from the cleaners, not to mention getting that "stuff" on their little delicate hands. I was on the hunt for something that would replace the "pledge" which has gotten way to expensive, almost to the point I hated using it so it would last a long time lol ~ I know, it totally defeated the whole purpose of buying it!

Fabric Softener - Fast & Fabulous!

I am one of those people who absolutely loves to wash clothes. I love the smell of clean laundry, the satisfaction of getting the clothes clean no matter what gross items my family throws in the green as possible AND they must smell good without all of the chemicals! That is what is so great about this recipe.... It is quite simple, 3 items and one of those is water!
laundry pile! Folding clothes...... well that is something I have to work on lol ;0)  That is going to have to be another post for another day (or year). I have two  criteria when doing my laundry, the items I use have to be as

Bumper Crops and Raised beds

With all the rain this summer, we in the southeast are experiencing an abundance of crops. Some - okay the majority of them are going bad because the ground is just too wet! Others are flourishing and the difference seems to be the raised beds some people use. Since you have a limited amount of dirt in raised beds, you are faced with a new set of challenges. Less Soil = less nutrition for your plants to feed on. If you are not careful you can quickly deplete the nutrition / food in your soil and be left with less than desirable results. If you overfeed your plants you will force them to grow the foilage quickly without any fruit bearing taking place.... that is not the purpose of a garden!  With proper planning and a few "old fashioned" tricks used by our grandfathers you, yes EVEN YOU can amaze your neighbors and give them of your abundance while they watch their crops fail.
