Homemade Shampoo Oat & Lemon

In case you have not noticed, I LOVE making things! Some of my favorite items, outside of food ;) is Cleaning & Personal Hygiene items. I have just recently (July 2012) started my own shampoo's. I have experimented with different recipes I have found and they worked really good, the one draw back is they are just too watery! I like to have a little "consistency". Well I have hit the jackpot this weekend! I could not wait to share this with you. It is extremely easy to make, very frugal & most of the items you will already have in your house. The great thing is you can use your imagination with fragrances - essential oils of your choice. If you have dark hair you can boil some Rosemary or Cinnamon sticks as your water base to bring out your dark lights. Lighter hair you can use lemon to bring out your highlights. Let's get started!

Homemade Dishwasher Gel Soap - Green, Frugal & EASY

I have been on a quest lately to find the "perfect" green substitute for my dishwasher soap. After researching, reading and experimenting with some different variations of the many recipes out there I have FINALLY perfected my perfect batch combination! I am so excited with this I could hardly wait to load my dishwasher and give it a try. When it cools it turns to a gel, which makes it SO much better for loading in your dispenser cups - it does not all get drained out during the first rinse cycle. The best part is it is 100% green, all natural products AND I tried it out on a few dishes I had left over in the sink and it worked as well with hand washing as in the machine ~ double bonus~ now for the triple play... I could not believe it....My hands felt so soft when I dried them... My dry chapped hands felt soft :) Yes ladies, it is true!!!

Essential Vaporizer Steam mix

Essential Vaporizer Steam mix

3 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
3 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
3 drops Lemon Essential Oil
per gallon of water for a safe and healthy alternative to "vicks" vaposteam.

You can also use this same mixture of oils in 8 ounces of water. Mix in a fine mist spray bottle and use to spray down your pillows for a comforting night of rest. This helps to relieve the congestion that gathers in your head while you rest. Tea Tree oil is good for your respiratory system and just that alone seems to help my seasonal allergies (that last ALL year).

Eradicating the vaporizer germs - naturally!

It is that time of year to start pulling out the winter clothes and the vaporizers. I must admit one of my "flaws" is that I am absolutely a "germ" freak. I used to use Bleach by the gallons to make sure no germ was left behind in my cleaning frenzies. What I have come to realize is why spend all of that money when I can use natural cleansers and essential oils that not only work as well as the bleach, but they are "natural" and I will not suffer from all of the ill effects of using harsh chemicals!

Soft Scrub - Homemade "Green" cleaner

Saturday started off AS soon as my feet hit the floor. I got my coffee, which is a REQUIREMENT for any morning ;) then set out to making 2 gallons of my Homemade laundry soap. After that I decided I was going to add a new twist to my cleaning arsenal of homemade products. I "need" a new soft scrub for my showers, sinks, stove and such. I usually use "Bon Ami" or my trusty baking soda as a scratch free scrub, but I just felt like I needed more. I needed some scent to it, after all if I  HAVE to clean my stove and oven I might as well enjoy the journey today, right? Not that I did not have any of my current scrubs available, but I reasoned to myselft .... if I "had" to make a batch first I could further delay the task. LOL  After researching various recipes over the last few weeks, some I have tried in the past and some peaked my interest I settled on partially improvising one that I found on onegoodthingbyjillee.com   This is a really easy recipe and only took a few minutes to make AND I had everything in my pantry.

Oatmeal Body Wash - Homemade

Every since I have started making my own Homemade items I have found that by Thurdsay I start taking an inventory of what I have on hand and making "mental notes" on what I will need to replenish. Since we are getting ready for our annual family getaway - 3 states of family members coming in and converging for a week of madness and laughs, I knew I needed to get a jump start on items to take AND items I can share with them and get them "hooked" on my madness ;)

It sure is Monday!

It seems that I find myself spending entirely too much time looking for that next quest, the next item to conquer... Just one more "new" recipe to try out. No, I am not looking for what to cook for dinner, but rather what kind of concoction to try next in my arsenal of home made cleaners, personal hygiene items, garden pest solutions - you name it, ALL is fair game!  I have 2 items to share with you, one I have been using for years but just recently traded in my tried and true "old" main ingredient. My after shower skin softener. The 2nd one is a new recipe that I tried out yesterday "all natural Hair spray" and I am HOOKED! Both are super easy to make and items that you most likely already have on hand!
