Homemade Whitening Toothpaste Update

Homemade toothpaste is one of those things that has about as many variations online as brands you can buy in the store. I think for the majority of us, it becomes a matter of personal preference, what you are looking for the end result to do for you and what items you already have on hand. Other than the essential oils, Most of the items you already have on hand and it takes only a few minutes to whip up a batch which will last you about month for only pennies. Compare that to $3.00-$6.00 per tube for the commercial toothpaste that is FULL of chemicals, most of which you cannot pronounce and the choice becomes pretty obvious!

How to make a Quilt from Outgrown clothes - Tshirt quilts

I had totally forgotten how much I really LOVE to sew! It has been a very long time, years actually since I have had the time to sit in front of my machine and get lost for a weekend. I finally decided a few weeks ago it was way past due.
I have always enjoyed making blankets, quilts, pillows, curtains and only occasionally clothes. With a week full of birthdays at Thanksgiving week and Christmas quickly coming in....... I realized I had never made my granddaughters any blankets or quilts. I guess I was just always to busy enjoying them and watching them grow to have that kind of time commitment.

Let the search for the "perfect gift" hunt begin.

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the beginning of October already! Where did the summer go? As the weather cools off and the fall garden is all planted I am in my beginning phases of what to get the children for birthdays and Christmas.

And then in came this super cute little Dinosaur - Perfect timing!

No Bake Cheesecake Bars Quick and easy!

With the heat wave being in full swing here in the Southeast and a massive cheesecake sweet tooth nagging at me for the last week, I started looking high and low for a no bake version of my FAVORITE dessert. Then I remembered I had seen a recipe on my Knox Gelatin box for a no bake version of cheesecake!

Homemade Yogurt ~ You pick the flavor & So good for you!

Homemade Yogurt is so easy I often wonder why I had never tried to make it decades ago. Seriously, it sounds intimidating but is actually very quick to assemble and then just forget about it for 8-10 hours while it is setting up and then put it in the fridge. One of the things I love about it is the cost is about an 1/6 of store bought and I am in control of what flavor I want it to be. To be precise a quart of plain Yogurt costs me .88! Adding the flavorings and sweetener I am still at about 1.00 per Quart!

Homemade Dishwasher Powder that WORKS

I have been using my "gel" dishwasher liquid for well over 2 years now and I still love it when I have time to make it. Over the course of the last year or more I have been pretty much using this powder only. I still ocassionally make the Gel for the hand washing. Some of it is lack of time but more than anything it is that this method is just more convenient for me lately. I do not have to heat up my house, it is quicker to assemble as I am making all of my other cleaning supply batches and most importantly IT WORKS!! Finally! In the past the one problem that I had with the homemade versions was the film that was always left on "plastics". That can be cured with using a good Homemade rinse aid (Recipe here). This recipe is quick to assemble and cleans the dishes very well. The best part is it is very reasonable on cost at 2.36 for 28 oz - about a 50% savings on store bought.

Dishwasher Rinse Aid ~ it is MAGIC for only pennies!

I wanted to give you all an update. I have been using this method for over a 1 1/2 years and it has never failed me. NOT ONE TIME! I am sure I am not the only one who has struggled with using homemade Dishwasher detergent! Trying to get the perfect balance between clean, green, frugal and spot free seemed almost too good to be true! Glass ware seems to be more forgiving than plastics in that dept. A lot of your homemade "recipes" take a lot of tweeking to get that mixture just right and to keep the spots off. Though there are a lot of recipes that are good ~ most just require one to many steps for me, adding vinegar in the rinse water and putting it in the auto dispenser, lemon kool aid.... putting powder in then a few drops of dawn..... It kinda defeats the whole reason why I bought a dishwasher! I want to load it, turn it on and walk away. I simply do not have enough time in a day for one more "needy" appliance in my life lol ;0)  Notice in the pic even the plastic lid for the container is shining!
That is why I call this little mixture my "MAGIC" rinse aid!

Chest Congestion ~ Breath Easy with all natural Essential oils

I first published this article in Sept. of 2013 when I was still a "newbie" to the EO world and today I would like to say I still stand in awe of the absolute power of essential oils. I continually find myself reaching for more in my everyday life instead of the little OTC bottles of (you name it)! The last couple of days I have found myself getting a sore throat and congestion in my head & that tight feeling in my lung. I have been using my arsenal of essential oils to ward of all the ICK I have been around!  I reached for my tried and true combination of oils tonight to give my "flu" spray an extra boost  by using these oils in my diffuser and WOW I can breath easy!!!

DIY Kitchen Cabinet Makeover ~ Under 40.00!

Do you have cabinets in need of a face lift? I did! We had very little storage space in our kitchen until this summer when we had a "Habitat" find of some Industrial sized cabinetry at a really good price. But they were well.... Ummmm.... Industrial looking and 2 different shades of green laminate. Painting did not seem like an option that would work or last, to re-laminate seemed expensive and time consuming After spending much time in thought and researching how to solve this dilemma I found myself wondering if there was a wallpaper that looked like wood.
