Homemade Face Cleansing & Toning pads for Oily skin ~ All Natural & Frugal

Face cleaning pads are easy to make and very easy on the wallet, especially when you compare the cost to store bought. The chemicals / preservatives in the store bought variety may help to clear your skin, but is it really that good for your health? This recipe will help to shrink your pores, remove oil and dirt and leave your skin glowing. The best part is it only takes about 5 minutes to assemble once your water has cooled. The most time consuming part is the boiling / cooling of your tap water. You will have solution left over which can be stored in your fridge and ready to make your next batch .

These cleaning pads should not be confused with "make up" remover pads as you do not want to get the oils, vinegar and witch hazel in your eyes. The great thing about these pads are they can be used as many times as needed per day. This is a huge blessing whether you are a teenager (boy or girl) with oily skin, or a middle age housewife with skin gone bad :). Many of the store bought items only dry out your skin ~ further exasperating the problem. The one thing the manufacturers of these so called "acne" or oily skin care products do not tell you is ~ the more you strip your skin of its natural oils, the more your body produces. You are actually making yourself dependent upon their products and we all know how EXPENSIVE they can be. With these all natural products you are cleaning your face naturally. You are not "stripping" the oil causing your body to go into defense mode. You are instead balancing the ph balance of your skin and calming the irritation that can occur with "unruly skin" while gently cleaning the pores.
Lets get started and tomorrow can be the first day of the rest of your life NOT being dependent upon expensive chemicals that are only making the situation worse.

Homemade Face Cleaning and toning pads for oily skin

Mix Together

  • 2 Cups Water Distilled or filtered water (or boil your tap water for 10 minutes and cool)
  • 2 TBS Witch Hazel
  • 1 TBS Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp Mild Soap (Baby Wash, Dove body wash or your favorite / homemade)*
  • 3 drops of Tea Tree Oil
  • 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
  • Cotton Rounds - my container held about 60 of the 80 in the pack
  • Small empty container (preferably round)  (I used a re-purposed coconut oil container)

Mix all ingredients together in a Jar with a lid. (I used a mason jar so I can store the unused portion for later use).  Stir  to mix all ingredients.

Stack your pads in your container and pour the solution in until all pads are saturated. Put the lid on and you are done.

A bouillon cube container or old "stridex" containers are good examples for your pads. Those smaller containers will probably only fit maybe 30 or so of the thick pads like I have.

To use: Wipe your face off up to 2 times per day with these pads, avoiding the eyes. The Witch hazel is an antiseptic and toner. Apple Cider Vinegar is also a toner and removes bacteria from the skin. The Tea Tree oil is also a great treatment for skin, bug bites, removing inflammation and irritation as can arise on acne prone skin. Lavender is also good at calming skin irritations. Both oils are anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal to name a few of the many properties that they have!
* I used DG Brand of Baby shampoo - It is paraben and Quaternium 15 Free & hypoallergenic - Plus it is only 1.50 for 15 ounces. It also makes a good base for homemade shampoo!

Now for the results, I am very pleased. The smell is quite pleasant, there is no hint of the "vinegar" smell for those of you who do not care for it. My skin is soft and definitely toned. All I did was wipe my face off with the pads and then blotted it dry with a clean dry towel, I did not rinse it off. I had purchased a tube of the round pads (80 ct) and I used about 60 of them in my jar and about 1/3 of the solution. My guesstimating is you will get about 180 cleaning pads with the solution. That is a great price considering I paid 1.00 for 80 pads and just a few cents for the rest of the ingredients!

I can hardly wait for the morning so I can use them again ~ Now this is a change we can all live with.
