Deodorant - All natural, fast & frugal ~ NO harmful chemicals!

Homemade Deodorant All natural!
Have you ever thought about what is in your deodorant? Read the label, it has some interesting things there. Items that should not be put ON your body or IN your body. Think about it like this, your skin is the largest organ that your body has. Everything that you put on it is absorbed into your blood stream, then filtered throughout your internal organs, Brain included! Do you really want to be eating aluminum? Did you realize that studies suggest it is tied to Alzheimers Disease? There are numerous studies that suggest it is NOT good for us to use, it is actually a poison to our system - such as,

It is particularly poisonous to the nervous system with a range of symptoms that can include disturbed sleep, nervousness, emotional instability, memory loss, headaches, and impaired intellect.
It can stop the body's ability to digest and make use of calcium, phosphorus and fluoride. This prevents bone growth and reduces bone density. Aluminum can also cause conditions which actually force calcium out of the bones. Either of these situations can bring on weakness and deformation in the bone structure with crippling effects.
Toxicity can also result in aching muscles, speech problems, anemia, digestive problems, lowered liver function, colic and impaired kidney function.  Credit given to Dr. Pepi for this list.

Where do we get this aluminum from? Glad you asked, I was SHOCKED when I first realized ALL the items that are sold to us in pretty packages AND the main reason that I now MAKE my own personal hygiene items!! This list below was taken from a public health statement issued by the CDC http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/phs/phs.asp?id=1076&tid=34
Aluminum is found in consumer products including:
  • antacids
  • astringents
  • buffered aspirin
  • food additives
  • antiperspirants
  • cosmetics

LETS GET STARTED MAKING OUR OWN DEODORANT:

You will need:

Equal parts of Baking Soda, Cornstarch & Coconut oil plus essential oils of your choice for a paste to keep in a jar or covered container. This recipe I have below makes it into a solid stick that you can use in your OLD deodorant tubes.

1/2 Cup Baking Soda
1/2 Cup Cornstarch
1/2 cup Coconut Oil (organic 100% pure)
1 TBS bees wax pellets
12 drops Lavender essential oil
4 drops Peppermint essential oil
10 Drops Lemon essential oil
4 drops Patchouli essential oil

repurposed containers or a plastic covered dish or mason jar

Put your Coconut oil and beeswax pellets in a microwave safe container, melt - keep a close eye on this as you do not want to get it too hot, just enough to melt the oils it took just under 2 minutes in my microwave - in 30 second bursts.

Add in your essential oils of your choice, the blend I used gives a nice crisp smell with a light floral scent (not overbearing) For my husband or son I use Frankinscense, Lemon and Sandalwood (or Cedarwood) for that musky male smell lol

Measure and mix in the Baking soda and cornstarch.

I let mine cool off for a few minutes before pouring into my re-purposed deod. tubes. This makes enough to fill 2 tubes and a little left over I put in one of my plastic containers to use first.

The added bonus is the "extra" I use for my hand scrub and face exfoliater! Yes it is multi purpose, Green, Frugal, Organic and Oh so good for you and your skin!

DO NOT WASH YOUR DISHES YET!!!

So now, take the rest of the paste that is left on your spatula and in your mixing bowl, get it on your hands - rub it into your hands.... (sorry no pictures, I would have dropped my phone), now put it on your face and rub in a slow, gentle circular motion. Rinse face well with with very warm water to get off all the dirt. Your skin will still feel slick from the oils. Get a clean washcloth and gently dry off your hands and face. FACIAL complete! Your skin will feel soft all day and just look at that glow!!

NOW that is a change we call all LIVE HEALTHY with!
